I can't wait to make my train and the little mini books included in this pack with my kiddos!! Polar Express Day is a tradition I look forward to every year. The kids wear their PJ's, we read the story, sip on Hot CoCo, and do a variety of activities all related to the book.

A nice chocolatey spread...my mom made those chocolate lollipops for everyone!!
And the BEST part of the whole day was when my principal surprised our class (and this teacher) with a frozen package delivered straight from the North Pole!!! You should have seen the looks on their faces when we opened up these bells- still frozen inside. Priceless!!!
I will randomly select someone to send my Polar Express pack to. Just comment below with one of your favorite Holiday Classroom traditions to enter!

I do "12 days of school until Christmas" where parents come to the classroom and read a Christmas story or do a little craft activity. mwhitehead@snds.washk12.org
ReplyDeleteI am using Elf on a shelf this year and Tinsel our elf leaves notes to encourage the kids throughout the day. We are also doing R.A.C.K.s this year (Random Acts of Christmas Kindness) and my first graders are loving making cards for teachers and staff around the school thanking them or telling them that they are doing a good job. Staying anonymous is the hard part!

During arrival time each morning I play the local Christmas Station on the radio. We celebrate St. Nicholas' Day with St. Nick "anonymously" leaving treats for my preschool littles. And throughout the month of December I help my littles add sparkle (in the form of sequins and/or glitter) to nearly every project! lee-colleen@cox.net
ReplyDeleteThis year we are using Elf on the shelf and the kiddos love him. We also write letters to Santa and Henry (that is our elf) is going to bring them to the North Pole. Santa's elves ( my daughter's middle school class) will write back and Henry will bring them back to our class. My firsties are soooo excited! We also read the Polar Express and write about the first gift ofChristmas and always have a pajama day to watch the movie and sip hot chocolate. Each student gets their own bell. They look forward to this day since as K's they say they can't wait to be in first grade!
ReplyDeleteI usually do several things. I play christmas music whenever possible, make scented play-doh, and we do lots of fan christmas activities.

We've been doing the Just Dance 2 Jingle Bells dance on youtube. The kids love it and it makes a great little "brain break"!
ReplyDeleteThe last week before Christmas break...I surprise the kids with a treat that goes along with whatever our project/topic is...gingerbread cookies on the day we do our gingerbread activities, green candy canes on the day we do Grinch activities, etc.

To spread some holiday cheer, I have a Polar Express Day (the last day before break), the students make their own Celebrations Around the World book, Elf on the Shelf, and reading lots of holiday books along with holiday music.

I also do a Polar Express Day. My favorite holiday tradition that we have is a Fancy Day. The whole school dresses in their best clothes. We have have a "candle" lit lunch and our Christmas party on that day.

Please please pick me!! Santa delivers a special package to my class each year on Dec. 1 that has a letter to that gets us excited ab the holiday season and has our countdown to Christmas blocks, our elf on the shelf, and a box with a bunch of gifts - they are books that we unwrap a book a day to read every afternoon until Christmas break.
ReplyDeleteWe are having a polar express party Wednesday and this unit would go perfect with my plans!!
We are doing Polar Express next week! I'd love to get this! 12-12-12
ReplyDeleteSinging LOUD for all to hear! That's how we spread Christmas cheer. Actually, we are singing for a group of senior citizens after lunch tomorrow. We also take a field trip to Santa's Village, read all the versions of the Gingerbread Man, have Polar Express Day, Grinch Day, and a Christmas Breakfast. This unit would be perfect for Polar Express Day on Friday!!!!
ReplyDeleteTo spread some holiday cheer, my kiddos come to school in their pajamas, ready to have some Polar Express fun. We watch the Polar Express while sipping on hot cocoa. Then we read the book Polar Express and do a little comparing of the movie with the book. Your unit would be an amazing addition to our holiday cheer! Thanks so much for sharing.
